People love Spain for it’s warm weather, delicious food, relaxed atmosphere, but the majority is going to places on the coast. What about Madrid?
Today we are going to tell you a bit more about Madrid, the heart of the country. Madrid is more elegant, the streets are bigger and expansive. It is also well known for European art and famous Spanish artists, like Velazquez and Goya. What about the greater feeling you get just by looking at Royal Palace or Buen Retiro Park?
Madrid is great, if you are one of those urban people, who like the mix of the historical barrios with the very modern crystal towers. It is also very dynamic and you do not feel as relaxed as you do, for example in Barcelona or Valencia. Madrid is very rich in culture and you can enjoy opera and ballet, go to the cinema or simply go shopping on Gran Via.
It seems like not a very Spanish experience, but hold on, no one is taking away from you the churros with hot chocolate you can have in the morning or the typical Spanish paella’s and tapas and many other tasty things. You absolutely have to try the local bars and restaurants, have a “cerveza”, which is “beer” in Spanish and also some grilled green pepper called “pimientos de padron”. Absolutely delicious and very authentic.
For those, who like to go out at night and have a few cocktails, Madrid is ready to offer a big selection of places. For example, try out Platea, a bar in an old 1950’s style cinema or the Dry Bar, if you are a fan of cocktails. If you also want some authentic experience and try some fresh food, Mercado de San Miguel is a place to be. They don’t take reservations, so you can just pop in there casually and have some excellent food and a drink!
Madrid is quite big and it is going to take you some time to get from a point A to B, so you can use either a taxi or metro, which is very convenient, especially in the rush hours. When it comes to the traffic jam, you can be certain it is going to take you good 40 minutes to get somewhere.
There are a lot of interesting places to discover in Madrid and it actually inspires you and makes you feel small for a while, because in comparison to other European cities, it is indeed big and impressive!
Go ahead and see how Spanish you can get in the capital!
